The a-serial cost sharing rule
A new family of cost sharing rules for cost sharing problems is proposed. This family generalizes the family of α-serial cost sharing rules (Albizuri in Math Soc Sci 60:24–29, 2010) which contains the serial cost sharing rule (Moulin and Shenker in Econometrica 60:1009 – 1037, 1992) among others. Every rule of the family is characterized by means of two properties
Effect of pH, temperature ,conductivity and sediment size on thorium activities along Jucar River (Spain)
[EN] A study is presented on the distribution of thorium and radium isotopes in sediments, suspended matter and water collected along Jucar river (East of Spain), using low-level alpha-spectrometry. The first aim of this work is to study the thorium and radium activity in water, sediment and suspended matter and their dependence on pH, temperature, conductivity and sediment sizes along Jucar river. The analysis of activity variation with these parameters will provide information about the dynamics of these radionuclides in rivers. The values obtained for the distribution factors between suspended matter and water (K-d) are also discussed.Sanchez, F.; Rodríguez-Álvarez, M. (1999). Proteasome inhibition by new dual warhead containing peptido vinyl sulfonyl fluorides
The success of inhibition of the proteasome by formation of covalent bonds is a major victory over the long held-view that this would lead to binding the wrong targets and undoubtedly lead to toxicity. Great challenges are now found in uncovering ensembles of new moieties capable of forming long lasting ties. We have introduced peptido sulfonyl fluorides for this purpose. Tuning the reactivity of this electrophilic trap may be crucial for modulating the biological action. Here we describe incorporation of a vinyl moiety into a peptido sulfonyl fluoride backbone, which should lead to a combined attack of the proteasome active site threonine on the double bond and the sulfonyl fluoride. Although this led to strong proteasome inhibitors, in vitro studies did not unambiguously demonstrate the formation of the proposed seven-membered ring structure. Possibly, formation of a seven-membered covalent adduct with the proteosomal active site threonine can only be achieved within the context of the enzyme. Nevertheless, this dual warhead concept may provide exclusive possibilities for duration and selectivity of proteasome inhibition
An algorithm to initialize the searchof solutions of polynomial systems
AbstractOne of the main problems dealing with iterative methods for solving polynomial systemsis the initialization of the iteration. This paper provides an algorithm to initialize the search of solutions of polynomial systems
Aplicación del análisis dedrocronológico de Retama sphaerocarpa L. (Boiss) para datar el abandono agrícola
Abandonment of agricultural land leads to changes in soil characteristics that may result in better or worse soil conditions. These changes are slow therefore the use of indicators for dating the time of abandonment is particularly useful. This study was carried out in Madrid, Spain with the aim to establish for the first time the use of Retama sphaerocarpa L. (Boiss) as a dendrochronological tool for dating land abandonment. This offers the possibility to take into consideration a period of time long enough for changes in soil to be determined. Such changes can be indicated by fluctuations in soil organic carbon content (SOC), porosity or water availability. Three different situations resulted from the dendrochronological analysis: soil currently tilled; soil recently abandoned (less than 5 years), and prolonged abandonment (in average 10 years). In addition the influence of Retama sphaerocarpa L. (Boiss) on soils was checked for these periods of abandonment. The rate of SOC gain can be considered fast. Tilled soils accounted for 0.48% SOC, and reached 1% in less than 5 years, although with wide standard deviations. Due to prolonged abandonment SOC reached 1.41%, (P = 0.09). Total soil porosity under tillage was 49%, and decreased to 38% after 4-5 years, but recovered to 41% under prolonged abandonment. Water availability (volumetric soil moisture between field capacity and permanent wilting point) remained the same, ranging from 7.7 to 8.5% along the whole period of time. The presence of R. sphaerocarpa L. (Boiss) accelerates soil changes as SOC in prolonged abandonment increased to 2.65%, porosity was 41% and water availability 10.3

Renormalized Kaluza-Klein theories
Using six-dimensional quantum electrodynamics () as an example we
study the one-loop renormalization of the theory both from the six and
four-dimensional points of view. Our main conclusion is that the properly
renormalized four dimensional theory never forgets its higher dimensional
origin. In particular, the coefficients of the neccessary extra counterterms in
the four dimensional theory are determined in a precise way. We check our
results by studying the reduction of on a two-torus.Comment: LaTeX, 36 pages. A new section added; references improved, typos

Effects of 2 Physiotherapy Programs on Pain Perception, Muscular Flexibility, and Illness Impact in Women With Fibromyalgia: A Pilot Study
[EN] Objective
This study assessed the effect of 2 physiotherapy programs designed to improve flexibility and to reduce the impact of the illness and pain perception in women with the fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), and compared the effects of the 2 programs in the short and intermediate term.
Methods
Twenty FMS patients were randomly assigned to 2 training groups, one following a program of kinesiotherapy and active muscular stretching and one using techniques of Global Myofascial Physiotherapy, according to the Mézières method. Both groups met twice a week for 12 weeks, for a total of 150 minutes each week. Flexibility and illness impact were measured by means of a standard test, whereas pain was assessed by means of thumb palpation. Measurements were taken at the beginning and end of the program and 24 weeks after its end.
Results
Patients had achieved a statistically significant reduction in the severity of the disease and improved their flexibility level by the end of the program, but had returned to initial values after follow-up. Significant differences were not observed between the 2 treatment groups in the initial values or in the results at the end of the program or after the follow-up, so neither program proved better than the other.
Conclusion
The FMS patients in this study improved their flexibility level and general well-being using both kinesiotherapy and stretching exercises techniques.S

Relationship between aerobic fitness and quality of life in female fibromyalgia patients
[EN] Objective: To determine whether there is a direct link between quality of life and
aerobic capacity among female fibromyalgia patients.
Design: Cross-section study.
Setting: University of Leo´ n.
Subjects: Twenty-nine women belonging to the Leo´ n Fibromyalgia and Chronic
Fatigue Association.
Main measurements: Aerobic capacity and quality of life were measured by means
of the Six-Minute Walk Test and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire. Outcome
measures included heart rate and rate of perceived fatigue and dypsnoea.
Results: The average distance walked was 432.8 (61.2) m and the total average
Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire score was 47.5 (18.9). Only item 1 of the
Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, physical function, showed any statistically
significant link with the distance walked, which had no statistically significant rela-
tionship with any of the variables studied.
Conclusion: The physical fitness of women with fibromyalgia, as determined by the
Six-Minute Walk Test and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, has no direct
relation with quality of life as the patients perceive it.S
